In this post, I argued against “plants feel pain”. Even though I had proved my point clearly, there is still another comeback left for the opponent; especially in my region.
“Sir. Jagadish Chandra Bose proved that “plants feel pain”.”
With no doubt, he was one of the greatest scientists of that era and I am proud of his contributions. He DID some groundbreaking discoveries in the biophysics and I don’t have any problem with them except the mentioned one.
In his field of research, he found out how a plant is a complex living organism and has similar (not same) characteristics of animals. He actually proved that plants breathe, grow, reproduce and live-die like animals. He also proved that they also react to external stimuli like temperature, gravity, chemical, and others*.
But the theory of plants feeling pain is just a hypothesis. I am a student of that subject and I am saying this with the top of my confidence that there’s no practical experimentation from him to prove that theory. As per “Pain” is concerned I believe that he just assumed it.
So, in the end, it is clear that not every reaction from a living organism comes from suffering and not all great scientists are always correct.
